Best Practices of GP Sasoli, Block Lundra, District Sarguja
The major achievements of the Gram Panchayat Sasoli are as following:
Establishment of Weekly Haat Bazar in the Village:
The village Sasoli has only 5 acres of Government Land which is near to the approachable
road in the village. In the year 2010, some of the strong and influential people in the village
started to encroach the Government land for their personal use. In order to safeguard the
government land and make use of the government land for the public use, discussion was
made in the Gram sabha of the village. The gram sabha unanimously decided to develop this
government land as Weekly Haat Bazaar. Followed by the resolution of gram Sabha, the
Gram Panchayat Sasoli also approved for the same in the Panchayat meeting. The villagers
jointly as team approached the Tehsildar to remove encroachment and with the help of
administration and police succeeded in removing the encroachment in the government
land.
Previously, the villagers had to travel Lundra which is 6
kms from the village for the weekly market for selling
their products and making purchases. Now, the village
Sasoli and round 14 villages nearby covered in mostly
hilly areas and around 15000 population benefit from
this weekly bazaar established in the village. At present
Haat bazaar is organized on every Thursday at this
government land. The people from the Sasoli, nearby
villages and the businessmen from Ambikapur, Lundra
put up their shops during the bazaar. As per the
decision of the Panchayat his market place is used to organize Melas during Basant
Panchami and the people from the nearby villages also participate in the Mela. Earlier the
farmers in the village were exposed to only few businessmen and were forced to sell their
product in very low price. The weekly Haat Bazaar has given them opportunity to expose
their product to more businessmen and to bargain with them. This helped them to have
better understanding about the marketing and good earning for their hard work. The Haat
Bazaar also made the Panchayat to earn some revenue for itself. But the Gram
Panchayat has relaxed all charges/taxes on the Market for one year for the shop keepers to
come and install their shops. After one year of the initiation of the Haat bazaar, the
Panchayat has collected Rs. 1790 in 2 months. The Panchayat is looking forward for more
income generation from this Haat Bazar which would be used for the development of the
basic amenities in the village.
